À louer

Franck Chartier and Gabriela Carrizo – Cie Peeping Tom

They say that in order to develop children’s imaginations, the children must at first be bored. Boredom is in fact not sterile but a creative force, encouraging dreams, inciting thinking about intimate wanderings in parallel worlds, rich in sounds and images. The Belgian dance company Peeping Tom got that message: its pieces, under the leadership of its two choreographer/directors Franck Chartier and Gabriela Carrizo, delve precisely into the floating zones in which our attention begins to stray and logic is no longer dominant. The performances, although placed in familiar settings, carry us far from the reassuring paths of reason. In 32 rue Vandenbranden, their previous work, one which received a great deal of attention and which was also presented at La Filature, we saw poetry bursting noisily onstage, sending the audiences into a world filled with strange individuals. With À louer (To rent), the artists again step across the lines between reality and fantasy. Things are constantly slipping out of our grasp and the eight dancers oscillate with virtuosity on the wire of the ephemeral, showing us how the tangible can also be fleeting and time is not quite as linear as we would like to think.
