Stéphanie Nataf

ANANDA
For her newest creation, Ananda (“happiness” in Sanskrit), Stéphanie Nataf has drawn her inspiration from a magnificent monument, the tomb of François II in the Cathedral of St. Pierre Saint-Paul of Nantes, created by the sculptor Michel Colombes (1431-1513), more precisely from the four statues ornamenting the corners of his tomb, four women incarnating the four cardinal virtues: Strength, Temperance, Prudence and Justice. The beauty of these sculptures, their grace and their strength of expression, brought the choreographer to reflect upon Woman and her mysteries, extrapolating from the four ideas that they represent -- the keys to go up against the world. This choice is not a safe one in the world of hip-hop dance, where women choreographers are rare, and masculine values dominate. With a singular style, with finesse and sensitivity, Stéphanie Nataf, guided by these allegorical figures, creates subtle, elegant dancing highlighting the charisma of her dancers.

ZOU
A pioneering choreographer and French hip-hop dancer, with José Bertogal, Stéphanie Nataf presents her first solo creation for five dancers, an exploration of the possibilities of line. For this piece she found inspiration in Gilles Deleuze’s text Entretien sur Mille Plateaux (A thousand plateaus) in which he talks about all kinds of lines, abstract and not, dimensional and directional, which contour or which do not … those are the most beautiful. The hip-hop of Stéphanie Nataf is innovative, aerial and sensual, filled with African, Indian and contemporary influences. She draws a precise continuous through-line with her love for dance.
