Johan Heldenbergh, Titus De Voogdt – Cie Cecilia, KVS
Rare, priceless, this is a piece about friendship imagined by the actor Titus De Voogdt and the director Johan Heldenbergh, both of whom are Belgian, close friends of Arne Sierens, and who have worked with him for a long time. This is not superfluous information when you are dealing with Belgian humour and its ability to take something real and turn it into a uniquely poetic theatrical subject. Along with two other pals, this piece deals with the relationship between two jailbirds who want to see each other again in spite of having been forbidden to do so. There are few words in this piece, which consists mostly of funny expressions, grimaces and tiny changes in facial contortions. And the message comes across: friendship, even if it is sometimes subject to irrational imperatives, is still a beautiful gesture. Unfortunately there are consequences for the two friends because they have broken the law, but at least they got to see each other. And here is where the story really begins …
