after Anna Kavan – François Verret
Inspired by a novel by the British writer Anna Kavan, Ice is a fascinating evening blending dance, theatre and musical concert. This exceptional work by François Verret, a talented choreographer as well as man of the theatre, drawn equally to literature – enchants, literally. Following a fictional, quasi-supernatural storyline in which human beings are slowly being submerged by the encroaching ice, threatened by chilling, looming shadows, François Verret has conceived an unearthly oratorio including the voice of an exceptional English singer and another singer, whose voices are capable of astonishing modulations. Accompanied live by the electric cello of Martin Schütz, they become part of a spectral universe where riveting apparitions speak to our collective unconscious. Moving forces onstage drive us between dream and nightmare, in a fading kingdom of dazzling beauty. We let ourselves go, our senses terribly alive, swept up in hypnotic, moving, unforgettable visions.
