Aurélie Gandit and Matthieu Rémy – Cie La Brèche

“Variety” which seeks only to entertain, to light up our lives, to please the greatest number of people, is it in fact a devouring, dizzying machine sucking up everything in its path, from the most pathetic to the most existential of human feelings? These omnipresent songs, these simple, direct melodies, accompanied by clever arrangements and diabolical lyrics, do they touch our hearts only to serve the modern cultural industry? It’s a fact: in the car, at work, in the cafes, or at parties, French variety songs tell us something about the world, even if truth is hidden in a layer of silliness and artifice. And it makes us want to dance. This is the objective of the demonstration by Galaad Le Goaster and Aurélie Gandit who have – of course – chosen to take on this problem from the other end, dissecting the style and the demagogical or devilishly philosophical rhetoric of these popular refrains in a rather special danced lecture. The woman who enjoyed creating movement out of painting masterworks in La Visite dansée (The danced visit) now chooses to take on critical reflection mixed with the fundamental benevolence of this French singing style.
