Valeria Apicella – Cie 3.14
The choreographer Valeria Apicella was born in Naples, Italy, and has retained a perhaps Italian taste for light as well as the ability to distill happiness into dances, performances of extreme poetry. Curious about other art forms, she creates a multiple, sensitive universe permeated with perception and emotion. With Psalm a secret song, she creates a work in which necessity dictates action: the necessity for the body to respond to the thousand and one voices calling out, for the dancers to exist at each moment, to make the uncluttered stage into a space for prophecies, for each of us to hear or learn about. An evolving work, Psalm a secret song is like a melody composed for one body, one voice, for two, five or ten thousand women. It’s a danced score. Or, as Valeria Apicella writes, a poetic wish, a cube of sugar dropped into a glass of water.
