It is when you’re watching water falling for a long time, listening to the sound it makes, that time seems to stop. RC
Video is in some ways similar to a magic lantern, the Proust-ian object with which the child hidden inside the man may project images onto the walls of his bedroom, telling himself stories to escape time; but the artist – he knows the secret of the world and the videos of Robert Cahen reveal it, like the last words of À la recherche du temps perdu (Remembrance of things past), so simple and so terrible: it is all in the timing.
