Nouara Naghouche – by Pierre Guillois
Alsacian, with Algerian origins, this young woman, Nouara Naghouche, whose very short hair and hooded sweatshirt may remind you somewhat of the rapper Diam’s – brings us her caustic, brilliant one-woman-show. Rage and humour prevail in this series of sketches directed by her longtime friend Pierre Guillois, a devastating humour which allows the comedian to communicate her belligerence, rants and sarcastic updates: Nouara Naghouche delivers it all: the machos, the humiliations visited upon women, the unspoken stuff, the violence, the injustices. Men are raked over the coals, but Nouara Naghouche does not lose sight of her compassion. The piece, healthily and politically incorrect, does not indulge in sentimentality, but it also does not hesitate, dealing some heavy blows to our ambient stupidity. Her words are carefully aimed sputtering machine-gun bursts and her shrewd, stinging portrait of a society in need of criticism also showcases her ferocious talent. The piece is called Sacrifices, which suggests the underlying stakes.
