Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, Ann Veronica Janssens et Michel François
The Song predicts the imminent arrival of a time in which an exponential acceleration of change will paradoxically bring us to complete stasis. Humans are depleting the last natural resources of the planet, their physical bodies disappearing behind technological developments and unending virtual realms. Both a leap into the unknown and a call to action, The Song is a laboratory of sound and images, a visual and sonic universe where the body and its materiality attempts to maintain itself in a nonstop moving landscape. Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker enjoys sparking a dialogue between choreographic language and the artistic universes which are in theory exterior to her own. The relationships between dance and music on the one hand, and to text on the other – have been central to works which have profoundly affected the recent history of live performance. In this new work for nine men and one woman, the choreographic confrontation takes place in the realm of visual arts, rigourous and, inventive, in company with the Belgian plasticians Ann Veronica Janssens and Michel François. An exceptional evening.
